time is our bank manager, tax collector, police inspector

for at least eighty percent of my life, i'd never worn a watch. they seemed either clunky or childish, or inconvenient or too easy to misplace (i am in the habit of shedding every item of jewellery from my hands the moment i sit down to anything). i had dalliances with watches: there were a few short-lived, plastic, waterproof numbers as a child, and i committed for a full six months to a casio one that cost more to have resized than it did to buy. so when time2 got in touch with me about a watch review, i wasn't immediately convinced it was going to work out. i'd yet to find a watch i really, really liked, and had pretty much consigned myself to a lifetime of checking the time on my phone and - hang on, marc jacobs does watches?! this changed everything. a good perusal on the time2 site showed a massive selection of women's watches, and boy, were they cute. i chose a marc by marc jacobs watch, because it was classic yet not clunky, and discreet in terms of branding. it's not blingy or shouty, it's just a really sweet, bracelet-like piece that you can easily layer with other pieces of jewellery. i'd long read in magazines that a good watch, like a good white man's shirt was a "style staple" yadda yadda, but now i've actually seen good quality watches up close, i see what they mean. i feel a lot...classier with my watch on. and this particular one really is timeless. (pun not intended....)

top and blazer, Topshop.
XO necklace, c/o of farah mansor

i'd also really like to thank my friend tom (no, not the bin-bag dress one) for being kind enough to snap these pictures for me with his super-awesome camera and super-awesome photography skills. do you wear a watch? ps, farah is an emerging, just-graduated jewellery designer with some really cute and affordable pieces. check out her link above!

I have to wear a watch, I feel lost without one. I've never got used to checking the time on my phone. I have a really nice Oasis watch - they and Next make some nice high street ones. I also have a nice fake Bulgari from Turkey, haha.

Gorgeous watch! I don't wear one and in the past five years have only worn a watch perhaps less than 10 times. I just can't find one I really truly like for very long and am ridiculously picky about them - not sure why! Majority of the ones are either too plain, childish or overly flashy (as you mentioned).

I like your Marc Jacobs watch a lot - it's more suitable for women as I don't think a gold colour would look good on men - well, not on me anyway. :]

I have a very simple black and white plastic swatch - i don't like wearing watches either so i decided to keep a non-expensive one. The one you're wearing is super nice though and it really suits you, especially with what you're wearing here x

I too have had a hit and miss relationship with watches. I love antique watches and am lucky enough to own a couple that belonged to my great grandma. However, they have only just been mended and, even though they finally work properly, now I'm afriad to wear them all the time in case I lose one of them! This looks like a perfect compromise: classic and pleasingly chunky in a retro-man's-watch way, but not bling-y. Oh and those lace shorts look fabulous on you too.

Pretty pretty pictures! You're right, the watch really makes the outfit here (I mean the outfit is beautiful in itself, the watch is the cherry on the cake). But for me, I fear I'll never be a watch wearer. xo

I LOVE your watch! I have such trouble finding a watch as whenever I get a watch I have to get it resized as I have such skinny wrists!!!

I'm not one to wear a watch but I need one. I have a lovely pink watch by D&G but it's not the kind I want to wear everyday. I love your shorts. The look quite pretty.

Thanks for replying :) I'm in Varey, how about you?

Lovely post by the way, you're beautiful! And this makes me feel slightly ashamed that my watch was just a fiver from New Look (and its lasted me for years)! xx

Ah, Marc by Marc Jacobs, I do love those timepiece designs - the one you have chosen is gorgeous. I was never much of a watch person either, but luckily MJ offered me a solution! I fell in love with his pendent clock designs from a couple of years ago, and now rarely go anywhere without my little pear-shaped watch pendent. I love the look on people's faces when I go to consult my necklace for the time!
