the doctor will see you now

skincare is a pretty saturated market these days. i'm pretty sure every possible complaint now has an antidote you can snap up in the beauty hall of selfridges (including a few complaints made up in boardrooms somewhere to convince us to part with more cash. but i digress) so if you're going to bring out something new, well, it's got to be pretty darn special. like, it needs to have something that nothing else on the market has. perhaps, a client list of marilyn monroe, katharine hepburn and grace kelly? yeah, you read that right. erno laszlo, skin doctor to the stars, has relaunched in the UK, big time. the guy was so influential, that audrey hepburn said "i owe half my beauty to my mother, and the other half to dr laszlo". dr laszlo was so close with his clients, he knew all their secrets and made them all special prescriptions. he was also a bit of a character, and apparently refused to see people if he thought they weren't sticking to his rules, eek. well, thanks to harrods, you can nab his creams and use them when you like, not when some scary skin doctor tells you too. i popped along to the launch at 45 park lane (never seen so many guys in tuxedos in my life. it was like being at the world's lamest james bond convention) and got up close and personal with the ACTUAL CREAMS marilyn used.

(top, the grace kelly display. centre, marilyn's ACTUAL creams, you guys. bottom, the "marilyn monroe" and "grace kelly" creams)

the brand, currently exclusively in harrods have brought out a capsule collection, with a cream dedicated to one of laszlo's famous clients and their special skin needs. the two i got to try were the marilyn (a light-reflecting, dazzling primer of a moisturiser - makes you look like you actually slept!) and the ava gardner (a really gentle but effective eye cream - good for girls like me who like to pile on the eyeliner). i love that they elected for retro packaging - you can so imagine the creams on the dressing tables of the hollywood greats. i really enjoyed the event and learning about the brand heritage - definitely one to watch!
