my friend tom...
we all have that one friend who makes you feel rubbish about yourself cause they're so much better than you at everything. but they're also always so charming and lovely you can't really hate them because you'd feel even worse. for me, that friend is tom lincoln. i've chatted about him before on here (and i'm fond of boring to death any PR guys and gals who'll listen about his design prowess), but it's time to give him a little spotlight again, because he's really starting to arrive. tom is not only smart and handsome (i take him as a +1 to events, and even my mum admits he looks better than me), he's really creatively minded and incredibly talented. in my hometown, tom was one of the few people i knew who was geeky like me about fashion, and we'd spend ages poring over magazines on the train on the way up to london, or shopping together, and then when i started my blog, him photographing me. i also dressed up in a number of his creations for his various projects (i've scaled trees and been stapled into bin bag ball gowns for this boy). i moved to london to study and pursue fashion journalism last year, and he followed to start his fashion degree at middlesex. i was so excited to go to his first-ever show a few weeks ago, when him and his coursemates showed their first-year projects, and left as buzzingly proud as i'd imagined. his project was based on details, and boy did he deliver. lace sandwiched between fine layers of latex in simple, statement shapes created these really gorgeous garments with the right amount of dainty and tough. he didn't make it over-saccharine with girly, fitted shapes, but played around with overstated silhouettes and made some super lust-worthy pieces. sure, this is only his first year - but you know this is a name to remember.
