the final piece of my post-holiday puzzle: getting my face back to normal. constant sunscreening (hey, i'd rather be greasy than burnt), sweating and generous exfoliation every time i touched my face courtesy of every bit of sand on the beach had left my skin feeling a bit dull, tight and generally not good. however, i managed to steer myself away from a breakout with a few choice favourites. first order of the day was rehydrating my skin - my skin's dry at the best of times, but it was feeling seriously parched when i landed. i can't rate the institut estederm cellular water gel enough - i use it as well as moisturiser for a much needed hydration boost. i wrote about it before, but in short, it has patented stuff in it that carrier moisture into your skin on a cellular level, and keeps it there. boy, does it work.
i had a little pamper night mask-wise;first, the REN invisible pores detox mask. everyone has their own favourite clay mask, and this is mine. sucks out dirt, oil and grease without breaking you out and leaves my skin feeling super bright and tight. i usually do this twice a week, but didn't bother on holiday, so you can imagine how much my skin needed this. i prefer this to any other i've tried - the eve lom rescue mask attacks my sensitive skin and leaves me red for days.
next up, the REN glycolactic radiance renewal mask. i never use glycolic normal (for reasons of aforementioned sensitive skin) but my skin was so dull i threw caution to the wind and whacked this on. and you know what? it was fine! in fact, it was great. i'll probably still dodge glycolic as it's a little thinning on the skin, but i needed this. if you're oily to combination, you'll love it. my skin was so bright afterwards, and felt smoother.
the delicate skin around my eyes was super-thirsty, so i've been using the perricone MD nourishing eye cream to rebuild it. my eyes are so sensitive, but i can use this no problem. one thing i really think helped my skin was my origins mini-facial - lots of counters up and down the counter offer these for free. the lady was amazing - she catered to my fussy requests (no SLS, please!) and did a gentle cleanse, exfoliation, tone and a few masks to get my skin back to normal and even gave me a bit of make up at the end so i wasn't bare-faced. it was totally bespoke, which is kind of incredible - i loved the dr weil mask she used on me, which she said "fixes everything". i've tried the super spot remover from origins which i can honestly works - a dab of gel on the peskiest of blemishes, and it dies down quickly, neatly AND without scarring. it's clear, so you can use it during the day without scaring anyone. oh, and finally, i know it's not skin, but my hair's been drinking up the aveda damage remedy mask - split ends and sun-parched locks begone!
