party season at aubaine
before i even start talking about the pretty things, or pretty scenery, i have to give huge thanks to the wonderful kit lee. she made time for me in her diary, super last-minute, to help out with this and take photos for me when everything fell through. so thanks, kit - i will now name my first born child after you. or you can just take the kid. whatever you prefer! so anyway; i wanted to do something a little more holistic with this outfit post and show you how i'd style my hair and make up for this little sparkly number. i bought the dress in topshop for about £30, and was worried it made me look like i should be on top of the tree, but decided "hey, it's christmas. if i want to wear what's essentially a skater dress made out of lamé, more power to me". don't you know the figure skater look is very in? the dress is just a bit of fun, really - it'd be perfect for an indoors new years bash. i teamed this with my first ever topshop lipstick, which i bought to replace an armani one i lost (and then promptly found after buying this one. c'est la vie) the shade is "called up" - it's a lovely berry tone that i sort of grabbed on a whim but i'm glad i did. i always get compliments on it, and the staying power is incredible for a high street lipstick. also, it's a lot less drying than more expensive ones i've tried, so two thumbs up. i also did a good sweep of becca's pressed shimmering skin perfector in moonstone, which is a slightly golden tone. i use the real techniques contour brush along the bridge of nose and across my cheekbones, and then buff it in i've been a little heavy handed. it's such a soft-focus finish - super flattering without looking shiny or obvious. it's a perfect, soft alternative to harsher contouring and it gives me a really pretty glow. finally, i am loving bumble & bumble's new pret-a-powder which frustratingly isn't out until 2014 - trust me, it's worth the wait! part dry-shampoo, part-style reviver, you shake it in at the root and it sucks up grease and gives the hair really great body. it's perfect for morning-after styles, or giving your hair some extra oomph. plus, it smells great! we shot this in the beautiful new marylebone branch of aubaine - this is upstairs, which will open to the public soon. i love the food and the coffee at aubaine, so this new central branch makes me seriously excited. it's all great lighting, great people-watching and great macaroons. seriously, the patisserie is to die for, but i love the steak and frites too. in the summer, it'll be a lovely little sun trap, but for now, it's perfect for a spot of afternoon tea or a cosy meal in.
